Join your Aboriginal Tour Guide on a trip around Adelaide for an enjoyable and informative tour. Learn about the local Adelaide area and the social history of early Aboriginal life. Explore cultural environments and have hands on experiences.

Itinerary

​Aboriginal Native Plant and Social History Tour (9.30 – 11 am)

Start the day with a leisurely walk around the Botanic Gardens to learn about Aboriginal bush foods and plant uses. Find out about:

  • Various other food gathering practices.

  • How implements and tools are made.

  • Where to find bush medicines.

  • Social history of the area  

Morning tea within the beautiful surrounds of the Botanic Gardens.
Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute or Alternative destination (11:30-12:50 pm). 

Then a short walk to Tandanya NACI for:

  • A walk through the Aboriginal Art Gallery.

  • Visit the retail shop with a large range of Aboriginal artifacts, artwork, books, and gifts.

Lunch in Adelaide (1:00-2:00 pm)
Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery – South Australian Museum (2:15- 4:00 pm)

After lunch take a short walk to see the ‘Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery’ at the South Australian Museum: The Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery showcases the largest collection of Australian Aboriginal antiquities and archival material in the world.

  • Over 3,000 items on display in an accessible, interactive setting.

  • Listen to and experience the history of the world’s oldest continuously living cultures in an engaging, contemporary context.

  • Your guide will share social history and cultural information as well as personal stories.

Tour Commencement Point:  Adelaide Botanic Gardens – “Friends Gate” (back entrance: enter from Plane Tree Drive)

Tour End Point: South Australian Museum – Front Entrance, North Terrace, Adelaide
